Vydura - Important Information
Migraine relief with Vydura
Vydura is a medicine that’s used to treat and prevent migraines. It contains the active ingredient rimegepant.
Vydura comes in an easy-to-take wafer form (oral lyophilisate), where it dissolves on or underneath your tongue. It’s the ideal migraine medication as not only is it easy to take but it gets to work quickly as you do not need to wait for a tablet to disperse in the stomach.
How effective is rimegepant (Vydura)?
Vydura has proven to be very effective in clinical trials. When being used for migraine relief, rimegepant is was found to:
- Give 59% of patients pain relief within two hours of taking
- Leave 21% of patients pain free within two hours
- Remove 35% of patients of their ‘most bothersome symptom’ within two hours
- Provided 42% of patients with continued pain relief between two and 48 hours after the first dose
- Meant that 86% of patients did not need any other pain relief in the first 24 hours
How does Vydura work to treat migraines?
Rimegepant belongs to a brand new class of migraine medications called ‘Gepants’. It blocks the receptors on neurons in the brain that calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) binds to.
CGRP is involved in the symptoms and pain of migraines. Rimegepant can reduce the symptoms of migraine when you can feel it coming on and can also be taken preventatively to reduce the chance of migraines from happening.
