About Actifed Multi Action Tablets
The symptoms of colds and flu can become very debilitating and frustrating, and many people find it difficult to function on a day-to-day basis when they are blocked up or under the weather. These tablets contain a unique antihistamine and decongestant combination to help bring rapid relief from congestion. They can also be used to treat allergy symptoms.
Actifed Multi Action Tablets information
What are Actifed Multi-Action tablets and what are they used for?
Actifed Multi-Action tablets are a popular form of relief for a variety of symptoms including congestion, runny noses and watery eyes. The tablets contain two active ingredients, a decongestant called pseudoephedrine and an antihistamine called triprolidine. These work to relieve allergies, colds and flu. Actifed, therefore, provides broad coverage no matter what has caused your symptoms.
Actifed can be used alongside other decongestants such as Vicks Vapour Rub to assist with sleep. It is also safe to use with tablets such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, which relieve some of the muscular pain that can occur due to cold or flu.

Actifed Multi Action Tablets FAQs
Actifed tablets can treat a number of symptoms linked to cold, flu and allergies. These include congestion, sneezing and runny eyes or nose.
The active ingredient in Benadryl one A Day tablets is a non-sedating antihistamine called cetirizine. Allergy symptoms occur due to the activity of mast cells. These cells are responsible for the immune system’s reaction to foreign particles. When an allergen enters the body, mast cells release substances such as histamine. This binds to H1 receptors, which causes an inflammatory response, leading to congestion and watery eyes.
Antihistamines work in different ways. Whereas some other medicines inhibit the release of histamine, cetirizine prevents histamine from reaching its H1 receptors. This blocks the body’s inflammatory response to allergens, easing the frustrating symptoms of hayfever and other allergies.
Brolene may cause slightly blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery unless your vision is completely clear. Consult your GP if you notice any vision problems while using Brolene.
Children under the age of 12 should not take Actifed.
Actifed is unsuitable for you if:
- You might be allergic to any of this medicine’s ingredients
- You suffer from high blood pressure or heart disease
- You are currently taking or have recently taken furazolidone or monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants
Actifed has been shown to have a link to some complications during the first trimester of pregnancy, and to decreased production of breast milk. So, it is usually not recommended to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your GP for further advice.
As with any medicine, you should consult your pharmacist before taking Actifed to ensure it is safe in combination with any other medicines that you may be taking.
Actifed is unsuitable for you if you are currently taking or have recently taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). This includes certain antidepressants and medicines for Parkinson’s disease. Certain other medicines may also interact with pseudoephridine in such a way that increases blood pressure. These include:
- Certain stimulants
- Appetite suppressants
- Linezolid
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Other decongestants
Actifed may impact the effectiveness of medicines which reduce blood pressure.

- Alcohol
- Benzodiazepines
- Other sedating antihistamines
